There are two main injuries that affect the achilles tendon in the ankle – Tendon Rupture (where the tendon tears and there is considerable loss of function) and Achilles Tendonitis (which is caused by overuse, resulting in inflammation and pain).
One of the best methods for improving the strength of the achilles tendon, is to perform an eccentric heel drop exercise on a step going up with both legs and slowly lowering the heel to the horizontal position.
