Reflexology

Reflexology is a therapy that can be received by an individual of any age, from babies to the elderly. This is because reflexology is a very individual treatment that has to be tailored specifically to you and your body, taking into account physical and nonphysical factors that may be affecting you as a person.

This treatment helps restore the body’s natural balance, and in these ever-increasingly stressful times, it is important that you take responsibility for your mental and physical healthcare needs. Reflexology is one way in which to reduce stress and tension in the modern world.

What Happens?

A full medical history will be requested prior to your first treatment. This will be kept completely confidential, and is necessary for tailoring your treatment.

You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks.

Hands will then be used to apply pressure to the feet, lower legs, hands, ears or face, depending on the area needing treatment. Generally, the entire experience should be a relaxing one.

Feedback is always very useful to a therapist, and particularly for this kind of treatment, so after a couple of sessions we can discuss how I can best advance the treatment to your needs.

History

While the act of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, this therapy was not widely acknowledged in the West until Dr. William Fitzgerald developed ‘Zone Therapy’ in 1915. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and head were linked to the rest of the body, using specific zones.
